Is homophobia just Addams Family Syndrome?

In the old comic strip and 1950s TV Show, and to a lesser extent the reimagined nostalgia movies, the running joke in The Addams Family is "we are normal, it is the rest of the world that is insane".  This confidence permeated every motive of Gomez and Morticia, and was the parenting style they used with the entire extended family.

All multiculturalism suffers from the same arrogance. Ethnic groups refuse to assimilate based on a version of the syndrome.

It occurs to me that in the late 1960s and early 1970s, this syndrome would have been a part of the formative years of the researchers who invented homophobia.  This insult and slur has been extemely effective in confusing young Americans.  But it is stll an extreme minority denying basic biology who wants their lifestyle to be considered normal.  And they are willing to destroy everybody else to accomplish it.
