Mere Christianity works

Mere Spirituality, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired.

To say, “You think you’re superior because you believe God is real and has revealed Himself through Jesus Christ, and you look down on people who disagree with you” is the same thing as saying, “You think you’re superior because you believe that matter is made up of atoms, and you look down on people who disagree with you.”

Ah. No it isn't. Not even close.

It's exactly the same. Arrogance is arrogance.

From the article, I believe the point the author is trying to make is that it's stupid to look down on someone who doesn't think the same thing you do, especially if it's through ignorance or just because of a difference in opinion. The comparison isn't the best or anything, but it does demonstrate the idea that no one should look down on someone else because of their understanding of things if they don't even know why that person thinks the way they do.

I think the point of the article is that to criticize believers for putting down people who disagree with them is like criticizing people who know that matter is made up of atoms for putting down people who disagree with them. The point being that what the believers know is as true as what we know about atoms. But it isn't.

I agree. It is not a good comparison.
